The BBC have just announced that Dave Allen has died.
I'm not sure how well-known he was outside the UK and Ireland, but he was on of the best stand-up (or, in his case, sit-down with a glass of whiskey and a fag) comedians that I've ever seen. Back in the sixties and seventies he was also one of the most controversial comedians on British television.

Sun, March 13, 2005 - 5:18 PMmy parents used to let me watch him when i was little....we'd sit up in our pj's with our hot chocolate....and laugh even though we didn't understand what we were laughing at!!
it was even funnier when i became a grown-up. -
