What's your favourite British comedy? And are you British or American? I'm interested to know what attracts different cultures.
I'm British and my favourite would have to be 'Allo 'Allo

Re: Fav?
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 6:35 AMOMG - where do I start!!!
Black Adder, Ab Fab, Anything with Ronnie Barker (Porridge, Open All Hours), Only Fools, Little Britain....and that's just the top of my list.
Am British but live in Australia. There are a couple of US comedies that amuse me - Two and a half men is a good one.
I loved the 'Carry On' films. I grew up with them when I was at an age when I knew that they were being slightly naughty with double inuendos but not quite sure what they meant. I sure do now ;-) -

Thu, March 15, 2007 - 6:38 AMI love two and a half men as well and out of all thegreat BritComs it was hard to pick just one, I think I could sit here for an hour and reel off everything I used to watch. I grew up on comedy shows and just love them to pieces!

Definately hilarious. My stepfather was a WW2 history fan and had never seen it. I put it on tape and took it took to him and he almost choked laughing at it.
I also liked Kenny Everett and Benny Hill too.
I also really like Brit SciFi too, starting with the old Quatermass shows.
I'm American, though I visit the UK pretty regularly. Most of my ancestors are Scots/Norse/Normans from the UK.
I had a great conversation standing under Chun quoit during a rain storm about some britcom shows and episode while sharing some cheese with some folks from Bristol.

Thu, March 15, 2007 - 11:23 AMhmm so many faves, which seems to be why we're all on this tribe, methinks. big fan of anything french and saunders. really enjoyed Jam and Jerusalem and have just discovered Black Books. Black Adder and Red Dwarf will always be good standbys. Oh! can't forget the Catherine Tate show!!
I'm canadian but have a close connection to Britian as my grandmother was a war bride (making my people fairly new to canada) and many of my cousins, aunts and uncles still live over there. -

Re: Fav?
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 3:13 AMMost of the above, but also, more than worth of a mention are a couple of BBC radio4 shows, both of which have been running for years, namely: "Just a minute", and "I'm sorry, I haven't a clue". Both are improvised and both more often than not have me laughing out loud with ISIHAC having me falling off my chair laughing. Both particularly 'British humour' and both I think, available on the bbc website to listen to In a simalar vein on the telly, again, both BBC shows are: 'Qi', hosted by Stephen Fry, and 'Have I got news for you', both shows which assume their audience has a bit of intelligence.

I'm an American. A southerner... but without the racism and stupidity everyone loves to attribute us with. :-)

Re: Fav?
Fri, May 4, 2007 - 3:27 PMIt has to be that rich surreal vein that started with the Goons and ran through Python and can still be seen in Eddy Izzard, Ross Noble etc. For some odd reason I find radio comedy funnier than the TV versions... a surprising number of the Beebs comedy shows (League of Gentlemen, Dead Ringers, Hitchhiker's Guide) started out on the wireless.
I do agree with Bobs though ISIHAC and the best moments of Just a Minute slay me...
Oh and yes British until devolution reaches its natural conclusion. Then I'm torn between English, Irish or Manx (for tax reasons)
