Anyone a fan of vintage radio comedies?
A few years ago I stumbled upon "The Goon Show" and have been hooked on BBC Radio comedy ever since.
I also reccomend:
Round the Horne
Beyond Our Ken
I'm Sorry, I'll Read That Again
ISIRTA, by the way, really seems like the seed that grew into monty python... any opinions? Either way, it's great stuff!

Re: BBC Radio Comedy
Sun, October 16, 2005 - 12:16 PMI'm not familiar with the vintage ones but ones that simply have to get a mention are 'Just a minute' and the ultimate funny of ALL time' I'm sorry, I haven't a clue', both of which have been running for years ( I was brought up on them, so maybe they do come under the heading of 'Vintage' after all), and which are both still to be found, usually running alternately as series on BBC radio4 ( which can be listened to on your computer)
I have a feeling that 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue' came about as a direct result of 'I'm sorry, I'll read that again', the BIG difference being, that it's unscripted. Worth listening to just to hear the priceless reditions of ' singing one song to the tune of another' or for those looking for some serious cerebral puzzling, try joining in the classic game 'Mornington Crescent', a game of fiendishly difficult bluff and double bluff!

Re: BBC Radio Comedy
Mon, October 17, 2005 - 11:18 AMI would REALLY love to find out where to buy a complete set of the Goon Show episodes. My dad turned me on to them as a VERY wee lad via the shortwave radio BBC, and they have haunted me since. I have not heard a word of it in years, but just started looking around (now that I have complete sets of most of my favorite BBC Television (Python, Adder, Bottom, Young Ones, Fawlty Towers, Avengers))
Anyone know where to get em? -
