Re: Its All Scientific, At The End Of The Day
Tue, June 14, 2005 - 8:53 PMWe were discussing this over at the Frustrated Comedy Writer tribe* and plugging various American sitcoms into the formula.
One thing I like is that because there's no objective way to assign a numerical value to some of the variables, scores will vary between individuals...thereby accounting for why, for me, Chef is one of the most perfect comedic creations known to science, whereas someone else who is ignorant and tasteless might disagree.
And also, it codifies the universal truth that human vanities and delusions are the basis of all comedy.

Re: Its All Scientific, At The End Of The Day
Fri, June 17, 2005 - 10:01 PMChef was a GREAT sitcom! I caught it when one of the local PBS stations was airing it. Like most British sitcoms I've seen, I see only one episode and I'm hooked to it! Although, the last season I saw, when Chef & his wife where splitting up was a bit weird, but then they seemed to get back together at the end at the airport, and that was all I saw...
I also need to get it on DVD. -

Re: Its All Scientific, At The End Of The Day
Fri, June 17, 2005 - 11:42 PMI stopped watching the so-called third series of Chef when I realized show creator and writer Peter Tilbury was no longer on board. The fools at ITV did exactly the same thing with Shelley, another show created by Tilbury, this one starring Hywel Bennett. After three series Tilbury was dropped as writer, the lead character breaks up with his wife, and you'd have to be deaf not to realize that it was suddenly a very different show with none of the same intelligence and insight.
